Mumbai: The Indian team started their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a victory on Saturday. India defeated the USA by 29 runs in their first match. The Indian batsmen had a poor performance after batting first, losing wickets at regular intervals. However, thanks to captain Suryakumar Yadav's unbeaten innings of 84 runs, India managed to score 161 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs against the USA In reply, the American batsmen also failed to impress, and due to the continuous fall of wickets, the USA team could only manage 132 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Chasing a target of 162 runs, the USA suffered their first setback in the second over. Gous was dismissed by Siraj after scoring 6 runs off 9 balls. Arshdeep Singh dismissed the American captain Monank Patel, who failed to open his account. Mukkamalla could only score two runs off 7 balls before being sent back to the pavilion by Siraj. Milind scored 34 runs off 34 balls before being dismissed by Varun. Mohsin contributed 8 runs off 9 balls.

The Indian team, batting first at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, scored 161 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. India had lost four wickets in the powerplay itself, after which Suryakumar Yadav's half-century helped the team cross the 150-run mark. The Indian captain scored an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls. Shadley van Schalkwyk took three wickets for the USA.

The USA won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Indian team did not have a good start and lost the wicket of Abhishek Sharma (zero). After that, Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan steadied the innings. A 37-run partnership was formed between the two batsmen. In the sixth over, Shadley van Schalkwyk took three wickets, pushing India onto the back foot. With India struggling at 77 for six wickets, Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav steadied the innings. The two batsmen added 41 runs for the seventh wicket. Harmeet Singh ended this partnership in the 17th over by dismissing Axar Patel (14). Arshdeep Singh (four) and Varun Chakravarthy (zero) were also dismissed, although Suryakumar Yadav held one end and continued to score runs quickly. India finished their allotted 20 overs with a score of 161 for nine wickets. Suryakumar Yadav played an unbeaten innings of 84 runs off 49 balls, hitting 10 fours and four sixes.
